The BlueBackUp software works well on a variety of file types. Note that the first backup is always a “seed” or “full” backup. Subsequent backups take advantage of the delta block processing scheme. Files that change very little, such as executable files, require virtually no backup activity. Most data files, especially databases, change relatively little during day-to-day operations and therefore lend themselves nicely to the delta scheme that analyses for blocks of the file that have changed since the last backup. In addition to delta blocking, data is also compressed; this drastically reduces the amount of data transmitted even further.
You can schedule backup to run daily, weekly of monthly at any time of the day. Scheduling is very flexible with an easy-to-use interface. It can accommodate simple to complex schedules. You can choose to retain data by days and/or by copies.
None! Once you schedule the time and frequency of your backups during installation, the backups run automatically.
No. Some clients only back up their data files, while others back up their programs and operating systems. Select only the files, directories, or drives that you wish to back up. Of course, BlueBackUp can only restore the data you back up. Make sure you are backing up all your critical files.
Open files in shared mode are backed up, but files opened in exclusive mode are skipped and noted in the log file. However, if the client uses an open file manager utility (OFM), all files can be backed up regardless of how they have been locked. Using the OFM, BlueBackUp can back up e-mail, databases, intranet applications, and all other open files - even if the files are changing during the backup.
As many as you want. You can customize your retention scenario so that it answers to the requirements of your company. Most companies tend to use a “Grand Father – Father – Son” scenario where the daily backups are kept on line a week, the weekly backups are kept on line a month and the monthly backups are kept on line a year.
As much as you want. You will be charged each month on the amount of actual compressed data you store on our server.
Using the BlueBackUp Administrator software for Windows, a single LAN administrator can configure backups for all computers even at remote sites.
As often as you want. You can configure the online backup software at your best convenience in order to make the backup frequency fit with your own specific needs.
Backups are extremely fast. Our Delta-Block technology transmits only the changed portions of changed files during each backup session. Exactly how long that takes depends on the size of your backup, speed of your Internet connection, and amount of "changed" data.
Because the initial backup requires transmission of all data, it takes the longest and may require multiple sessions to complete. The service will "chip away" at the initial backup until it's complete with no user intervention required. After the initial backup is complete, nightly backups are significantly smaller than tape-based systems because of the delta technology and data compression and result in a much more efficient and faster backup.
No. Mirrored hardware only protects you from a hardware failure. Since 90% of data loss is due to data corruption or user error, mirrored equipment offers no data protection. This is because corrupt data gets instantly written to the mirror equipment. The only way to protect your data is by having a backlog of backups to restore from.
